Amos 5:12
"For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right."
"The outlook was particularly discouraging as regards the social conditions of the people. In their desire for gain, men were adding house to house and field to field. See Isaiah 5:8 . Justice was perverted, and no pity was shown the poor. Of these evils God declared, “The spoil of the poor is in your houses.” “Ye beat My people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor.” Isaiah 3:14, 15 . Even the magistrates, whose duty it was to protect the helpless, turned a deaf ear to the cries of the poor and needy, the widows and the fatherless. See Isaiah 10:1, 2 . PK 306.1"
Both passages highlight the oppression of the poor and the perversion of justice. Amos 5:12 specifically mentions afflicting the just, taking bribes, and turning aside the poor, which resonates with EGW's description of justice being perverted and no pity being shown to the poor.
Amos 5:18
"Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light."

The EGW passage and Amos 5:18 both describe the day of the Lord as a day of darkness. While the wording differs, the thematic parallel is clear.
Amos 5:20
"Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?"
It was needful that men should be awakened to their danger; that they should be roused to prepare for the solemn events connected with the close of probation. The prophet of God declares: “The day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?” Who shall stand when He appeareth who is “of purer eyes than to behold evil,” and cannot “look on iniquity”? Joel 2:11 ; Habakkuk 1:13 .
