Jeremiah 34:2
"Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:"
"Zedekiah succeeded Jehoiakim in reigning at Jerusalem. But neither the new king nor his court nor the people of the land hearkened to the words of the Lord spoken through Jeremiah. The Chaldeans commenced the siege against Jerusalem, but were diverted for a time to turn their arms against the Egyptians. Zedekiah sent a messenger to Jeremiah, asking him to pray to the God of Israel in their behalf; but the prophet's fearful answer was that the Chaldean army would return and destroy the city. Thus the Lord showed them how impossible it is for man to avert divine judgment. “Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart. For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.” 4T 181.2"
Both passages refer to the prophecy of Jerusalem being burned by the Chaldeans. While the EGW passage doesn't directly quote Jeremiah 34:2, it echoes the prophecy of the city being given into the hand of the king of Babylon and burned with fire, which is a central theme in both.
Jeremiah 34:3
"And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon."
"shalt not escape out of their hand.” PK 456.3"
The EGW passage directly quotes a portion of Jeremiah 34:3. While it's a short phrase, the direct quotation makes it more than just a thematic parallel.
