Were the fire charriots and horses real

The account of the fiery chariots and horses is presented as a literal and historical reality in the experience of the prophets. When Elijah was translated to heaven, these celestial manifestations appeared specifically to separate him from Elisha before he was taken up by a whirlwind (Hvn 102.2). This event was not merely a vision but a physical separation witnessed by Elisha, who saw the chariot of fire and the horsemen thereof as his master departed (YI April 28, 1898, par. 9). These heavenly agencies represent the actual presence and power of the angelic hosts. In the experience of Elisha at Dothan, the reality of this divine protection was revealed when the Lord opened the eyes of the prophet's servant. While the Syrian army brought physical horses and chariots, the mountain was truly filled with superior, heavenly horses and chariots of fire that provided a nearer and more powerful circle of protection around the servant of God (DA 240.2).

The presence of these fiery messengers served as a source of continuous strength for Elisha throughout his life. Even during his final illness, when he did not receive a dramatic translation like Elijah, he remained conscious of the same heavenly messengers and the encircling hosts of heaven that he had previously seen at Dothan (TA 134.3). These manifestations demonstrate that the armies of God are a constant, though often invisible, reality sent to sustain and protect His people (PK 227.1).
