"plagues. God has begun to draw this covering over His people, and it will soon be drawn over all who are to have a shelter in the day of slaughter. God will work in power for His people; and Satan will be permitted to work also. EW 44.2"
"And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain."
Both passages speak of God providing a covering or shelter for His people during a time of trouble. Isaiah describes a cloud and fire as a defense, while EGW describes God drawing a covering over His people as a shelter from slaughter. The thematic parallel is strong.
