The EGW passage refers to Moses' 40 years in the desert as a training period, while Exodus 2:15 describes the beginning of that period. The EGW passage amplifies the significance of this period, suggesting it was a deliberate and valuable experience ordained by God. This is more than a superficial connection.
"The results of that training, of the lessons there taught, are bound up, not only with the history of Israel, but with all which from that day to this has told for the world's progress. The highest testimony to the greatness of Moses, the judgment passed upon his life by Inspiration, is, “There arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.” Deuteronomy 34:10 . Both passages address the issue of traditions and interpretations of religious leaders overshadowing or negating the actual word/commandment of God. The EGW passage describes the state of theological schools in Judea, while Matthew 15:6 is Jesus directly rebuking the Pharisees for this very practice.
"And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."
Similar to the previous pair, this is another instance where the EGW passage describes a problem (traditions overshadowing God's word), and the Bible verse (Mark 7:9) is Jesus directly addressing that problem. The connection is strong and relevant.
