Sabbat

The seventh-day Sabbath is presented as the definitive seal and sign of the living God, serving as a memorial of His creative power. It is a mark of loyalty between God and His people, identifying Him as the Creator with rightful authority over all He has made (ST March 22, 1910, par. 4). This sacred day is not merely a suggestion but a specific time set apart for God's honor, and to use it for self-serving or worldly business is viewed as a serious offense against the Lord (19MR 265.2). In the work of the church, the Sabbath is to be emphasized as a distinct and pronounced witness in every effort. It stands as a memorial of truth and righteousness that should be highlighted when establishing new congregations (MTC 89.3).

This observance is the visible revelation of God's seal, signifying that He is the one who sanctifies His people (8T 117.3). For families, the Sabbath provides a unique opportunity for parents to instruct their children in the plan of salvation. Even young children are capable of understanding personal religion and their need for Christ when properly guided during these holy hours (1T 400.1). Furthermore, the Sabbath is a time for deep spiritual devotion, where ministers and laypeople alike are encouraged to prioritize meditation and prayer over mere intellectual study to maintain a living connection with God (1T 433.1).

Historically, the Sabbath has been a day for earnest seeking of divine guidance and the delivery of messages that bring peace and light to the heart (1T 109.1). It is a day for the community of faith to gather, even under difficult circumstances, to be renewed and cheered by the special blessing of God through the ministry of His Word (1T 662.2).
