Ellen White taught that the biblical prophecy of wars and rumors of warsis being fulfilled in our time and serves as a clear sign that we are living in the last days before Christ's return. She wrote, "Today the signs of the times declare that we are standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. Everything in our world is in agitation. Before our eyes is fulfilling the Saviour's prophecy of the events to precede His coming: 'Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars.... Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places'" (
Ev 194.1). Ellen White emphasized that while these prophecies received a partial fulfillment at the destruction of Jerusalem, they have "a more direct application to the last days" (
2TT 351.2). This means that the wars and conflicts we witness today are not random events, but rather prophetic signs pointing to the nearness of Christ's second coming. She also connected these signs to a time of testing and spiritual preparation. Ellen White counseled that "we need to stay our faith upon God, for there is just before us a time that will try men's souls" (
2TT 351.2).
The increasing agitation and conflict in the world should drive us to strengthen our relationship with God rather than cause us to despair.
In 1904, Ellen White made a specific prediction that remains relevant: "Soon grievous troubles will arise among the nations, troubles that will not cease until Jesus comes.... The judgments of God are in the land. The wars and rumors of wars, the destruction by fire and flood, say clearly that the time of trouble, which is to increase until the end, is very near at hand. We have no time to lose. The world is stirred with the spirit of war" (
PH120 11.2). For us today, this means recognizing that global conflicts and international tensions are not merely political or economic phenomena—they are prophetic fulfillments indicating that Christ's return is imminent. Ellen White observed that even "rulers and statesmen recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place—that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis" (
SS 278.3). Our response should be to anchor our faith in God and live with the urgency that comes from knowing we are living in the final moments of earth's history. --- 💡 **You might also want to explore:**
