How will the devil deceive the world

Satan’s primary method of deception involves a subtle, progressive approach where he masks his true intentions behind a "semblance of good." He rarely presents his temptations openly; instead, he disguises sin with the "garments of righteousness" and uses "underhand work" to lull suspicion to sleep (MYP 83), (18MR 364.2). By mingling small improvements or attractive elements with worldly amusements, he leads individuals to take one small step at a time until they are fully ensnared (MYP 83). A central pillar of his strategy is to foster human self-exaltation and independence from God. He works to "befog and deceive" the human mind into believing that people possess an inherent power to do good without divine aid. By leading individuals to believe they can find favor with God through their own merits rather than through the atonement of Christ, he effectively tears away the foundation of Christian hope. Furthermore, he promotes the dangerous delusion that he does not exist as a personal being, knowing that those who do not believe in a tempter will make no effort to resist him. In the final days, these deceptions will escalate into the realm of the supernatural. Satan and his agents will employ "sophistry," "lying wonders," and even the performance of miracles to control human minds (2SM 53), (2T 172.2).

This includes deceptive healings where evil spirits first afflict individuals with a "spell" and then remove it to simulate a miraculous recovery (2SM 53). These "strong delusions" are specifically designed to captivate those who have rejected the love of the truth and find pleasure in unrighteousness (2T 172.2). To further his authority, the adversary utilizes "unseen channels" and "deceptive means" to place obstacles in the path of believers (5T 295.1).

He targets influential figures, such as irreligious physicians, using them as "wily" instruments to suggest base thoughts and corrupt the morals of those in their care (CH 326.1). Ultimately, those who are not firmly established upon the truth will be taken in these snares, while those who cannot be deceived into sin will face the same spirit of persecution that the Jews manifested toward Christ (2TT 106.3), (1SM 70).
