Mary Magdalene is described in Ellen White's writings as a woman who was deeply grateful to Jesus for His saving grace. She was the first to reach Jesus' tomb after His crucifixion and the first whom He greeted after His resurrection. Jesus had cast seven devils out of her, transforming her life by His grace. Although she had been seen as a great sinner, Christ understood her circumstances, did not extinguish her hope, and helped her overcome her sins. Mary was present at key moments in Jesus' ministry, and she was honored by being the first to see the risen Christ. She also offered a precious gift to Jesus in gratitude for lifting her from a life of shame to one of purity, and Jesus defended her act of devotion.
