"The Training of Soldiers Just in front of our printing-office in Basel, Switzerland, is a large park of many acres, reserved by the government for military drill. Here, day after day, at certain seasons of the year, we see the soldiers training. They are drilled in all the duties of the army, so that in case of war they may be ready at the call of the government to engage in actual service. GW 74"
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
While EGW describes literal soldiers training, the underlying principle is preparation for a conflict. Ephesians 6:12 speaks of a spiritual battle. The parallel lies in the need for training and readiness, albeit in different contexts.
"Wherever our ministers labor, in Europe or in America, they should seek to arouse the youth to prepare for active service in God's great field of battle. All who claim to be the servants of Christ have a work to do for Him. The very name of servant conveys the idea of hire, work, responsibility. To every one God has entrusted powers to be employed in His service. He has given to each his work, and He requires that every faculty shall be improved to His glory. GW 74.1"
"For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods."
Both passages discuss the idea of servants being given work to do. Matthew 25:14 introduces the parable of the talents, where servants are entrusted with their master's goods, and EGW speaks of God entrusting powers to each individual.
