The EGW passage directly quotes Matthew 7:20: 'By their fruits ye shall know them.' This is a clear and undeniable explicit allusion.

Both passages contrast something of true value with something of lesser or no value. 1 Corinthians 3:12 uses the metaphor of building materials (gold vs. wood, hay, stubble), while EGW uses 'pure gold and mere glitter.' The underlying theme of discerning true worth is present in both.
