"I now entreated that if I must go and relate what the Lord had shown me, I should be preserved from undue exaltation. Said the angel: “Your prayers are heard, and shall be answered. If this evil that you dread threatens you, the hand of God will be stretched out to save you; by affliction He will draw you to Himself, and preserve your humility. Deliver the message faithfully; endure unto the end, and you shall eat the fruit of the tree of life and drink of the water of life.” LS 72.1"
Related principle 90% 2 Corinthians 12:7
"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure."
Both passages deal with the danger of pride arising from spiritual experiences and the need for humility, with affliction serving as a means to maintain it. The angel's words to EGW directly echo the sentiment in 2 Corinthians 12:7 regarding being 'exalted above measure' and the provision of a 'thorn in the flesh' to prevent it.
"After recovering consciousness of earthly things, I committed myself to the Lord, ready to do His bidding, whatever that might be. LS 72.2"
Related principle 85% Acts 9:6
"And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do."
Both passages describe a person submitting to God's will and asking what they should do. The willingness to obey and seek God's direction is the strong parallel.
Related principle 80% Luke 1:38
"And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her."
Both passages describe a person submitting to God's will and being ready to do His bidding. The sentiment of surrender and obedience is the key parallel.
