The EGW passage directly reflects the principle stated in Isaiah 59:2, that sin creates a separation between humanity and God. The EGW passage expands on the experience of that separation.
"O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?"
Both passages express a feeling of wretchedness and a desire for deliverance from a state of sin and helplessness. The EGW passage elaborates on the internal struggle that Paul expresses in Romans 7:24.
