Ellen White clearly teaches that God does not always prevent the devising or plotting of men, but instead uses these very circumstances for the benefit of His children. She points to the stories of Joseph and Daniel as examples, stating: "Study the history of Joseph and of Daniel. The Lord did not prevent the plottings of men who sought to do them harm; but He caused all these devices to work for good to His servants who amidst trial and conflict preserved their faith and loyalty." (Ministry of Healing, p. 487.1; also Gospel Workers, p. 477.1; Testimonies for the Church, vol. 8, p. 123.2) She further explains: "The mysterious providences over which we so often lament, are designed of God to accomplish a work which otherwise might never have been done." (Life Sketches, p. 293.1) These passages show that, according to Ellen White, God may allow the plans of men to proceed, but He overrules them for the ultimate good of His faithful followers.
