EGW directly uses the same descriptors (poor, miserable, blind, naked) from Revelation 3:17 to describe the spiritual condition of those she is addressing.
"He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful."
Both passages discuss how worldly concerns and riches can hinder spiritual growth and choke the word of God. EGW's statement about evil choking the good seed echoes the sentiment in Matthew 13:22.
