Both passages warn about the dangers of straying from God's grace and the potential for bitterness or ruin. Hebrews 12:15 warns against failing of the grace of God and the root of bitterness, while EGW describes the consequences of a pleasure-loving life, including a wounded soul, impaired discernment, and potential ruin.
"Cares, riches, pleasures, all are used by Satan in playing the game of life for the human soul. The warning is given, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
