"And even greater is the power of the Bible in the development of the spiritual nature. Man, created for fellowship with God, can only in such fellowship find his real life and development. Created to find in God his highest joy, he can find in nothing else that which can quiet the cravings of the heart, can satisfy the hunger and thirst of the soul. He who with sincere and teachable spirit studies God's word, seeking to comprehend its truths, will be brought in touch with its Author; and, except by his own choice, there is no limit to the possibilities of his development. "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."
Both passages address the idea that spiritual hunger and thirst can only be satisfied by God/Jesus. EGW's passage expands on this theme, making the connection quite strong.
"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
Similar to John 6:35, John 4:14 speaks of a spiritual thirst being quenched by Jesus. EGW echoes this idea of satisfying the soul's thirst through a relationship with God.
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
EGW's statement that man was created for fellowship with God directly relates to the principle established in Genesis 1:27 that man was created in God's image, implying a capacity and purpose for relationship.
