The EGW passage speaks of people twisting scripture to suit their purposes, which is precisely what 2 Peter 3:16 warns against.

"And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:"
The EGW passage describes a kingdom falling due to internal division, mirroring the principle Jesus states in Matthew 12:25.
