Both passages describe the coming of the Son of Man on a cloud. EGW's description directly alludes to Matthew 24:30.
"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen."
Both passages describe Jesus coming with clouds and being seen by all. EGW's description echoes the imagery of Revelation 1:7.
"The voice of the Son of God called forth the sleeping saints, clothed with glorious immortality. The living saints were changed in a moment, and were caught up with them into the cloudy chariot.
