Knowing God's will
Ellen White teaches that knowing God's will involves several key steps: 1. Surrender and Earnestness: God reveals His will to those who are truly earnest and anxious to be guided. Surrendering your own will and being eager to follow God's direction is essential (3T 466.4). 2. Submission in Prayer: When praying, we should submit our desires to God, saying, “Not my will, but Thine, be done,” just as Jesus did. This attitude of submission is important for understanding God's will (MH 230.1; GW 218.1). 3. Study and Obedience: To know God's will, we must study His word and not simply follow our own inclinations. Asking, “What wilt Thou have me to do?” should be our sincere question. As we obey what God has already revealed, He will make further duties clear (4T 53.3; SC 111.2). 4. The Bible as the Guide: God's will is revealed in the Bible, which provides the essential knowledge for our lives (CE 84.1). 5. Consecration and Service: Daily consecration and service to God help us gain a deeper understanding of His will (8T 63). 6. Faith and Works: True faith in Christ leads us to desire to know and do God's will. Faith is made perfect by works—by acting on what we know (5T 644.1). 7. Humble Obedience Brings More Light: As we walk in humble obedience and fulfill God's purpose, He will reveal more of His will to us (MH 465.2). In summary, knowing God's will is a process of surrender, earnest seeking, prayerful submission, diligent study of the Bible, obedience to what is already revealed, and a life of consecration and service. As we follow the light we have, God will continue to guide us. References: - Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, p. 466.4 - Ellen G.
